Telemetry System Description
The system consists of four components: a Polar WIND pulse transmitter Module, an EquuPulse Transmitter, an EquuPulse Receiver and an EquuPulse Display unit. The WIND Module and the Transmitter are carried by the horse (or other animal) being monitored, while the Receiver and Display are both located at the monitoring point. The purpose of the system is to enable a pulse rate to be monitored from a greater distance than is possible with the Polar WIND system by itself. The basic Polar WIND system has an operating range of about 35 feet, whereas the EquuPulse system has a range of about 1/2 mile.

The Polar WIND Modules are "turned on" when they are connected to electrodes that are properly applied to an animal. When the Module detects a heart beat, it transmits a unique identifying number, then goes quiet until it detects another beat. Then the cycle repeats. When there are several Modules (monitoring several animals) near each other, the monitoring device for a particular Module (or animal) must "listen" for the identifying number of the module to which it is assigned, and must ignore the other numbers that it "hears".

Telemetry Transmitter
The EquuPulse Transmitter has three functions: it "listens" for the number of its assigned WIND module, it calculates the heart rate, and it transmits the heart rate to the EquuPulse Receiver. The Transmitter is able to calculate the heart rate by measuring the time intervals between many instances of reception of its assigned number, and averaging them. The EquuPulse Transmitter has to be located within 30 feet of the WIND Module. For this reason, it is normally carried by the horse or other animal being monitored.

Telemetry Recevier
The EquuPulse Receiver receives (of course) the heart rate data sent from the Transmitter, and sends it on via cable to the Display. The Receiver and Display are in separate enclosures so that the Receiver can be located as high as practical to optimize reception distance, and the Display can be located where it can be easily viewed.

Custom Saddle Pad for Telemetry Gear
A custom saddle pad with sewn pockets for telemetry gear is provided with system. The saddle pad can be used with the Polar WIND electrodes, or with the Polar T51H heart rate electrode. If the custom saddle pad is not required for a particular customer, the price of the telemetry system is reduced by $100.
