 |
Intended Audience: Any
multisport athlete that wants to train based on their heart rate, and
wants better performance and better health! |
Mike and his coach,
Phil Maffetone, created this training plan to help triathletes
experience the joy of reaching their potential. The Mike Pigg
Triathlon Training Plan develops a customized and precise
training schedule loaded onto the PC Coach calendar. This
heart-rate based plan will set up workouts for you based on
your current fitness level, your goals, and your training
preferences.
The plan creates a customized training
schedule specifically tailored to your goals, your needs
and your level. |
|
|
|
The Plan
The Mike Pigg Plan embraces the philosophy
that your body needs to build a solid aerobic base, then later
adds anaerobic workouts as your progress dictates. This plan prepares
you for a successful triathlon season by creating a training schedule
with the perfect variety of run, bike and swim workouts.
.
|
Mike's plan develops a
comprehensive training schedule, and loads it onto your PC Coach
calendar. Mike's plan is based on the following:
- aerobic heart-rate (as derived from the
180-formula),
- number of hours you wish to train per week,
- type of race you'd like to compete in, and
- percentage of training time spent in each sport. |

|
|
Startup Interview
First, the program leads you through
an interview to assess your current fitness and training goals
for the year.
|
Scheduling
Workouts
Then, the program sets up your schedule 3
weeks at a time, individually monitoring your progress and adjusting
your training through special evaluation workouts.
Evaluation
Throughout the season, the plan will evaluate
your training and analyze how your body is responding to training.
Special workouts, called MAF tests (for Maximum Aerobic Function)
enable the program to see your improvement and make the necessary
recommendation to keep you on the right road toward achieving
your goal.
|
|
Update Interviews
This program follows your progress and changes
your training phases according to how you are performing. Completely
customized to you. Every three weeks you will also have the opportunity
to change your original start up options.

The Authors
|
| Mike Pigg |
|
|
Mike Pigg is one of triathlon's most
notable personalities, a gifted yet hard-working athlete
and a proven champion. From 1987 to 1995 he won an astonishing
77 of 132 races, with an incredible 30 wins in the U.S.
Triathlon Series. This might very well be the greatest
career in the |
|
history of the sport. The only titles that eluded
him are the major ultra-distance championships --
Ironman, Nice, and PowerMan although he has finished
second in each of these races.
Mike began swimming at the age of 10 and from there
moved on to cross country running in High School.
He didn't start biking until college, and that was
merely for transportation on the 34 mile round-trip
to school. Arcata, California, Mike's hometown, is
known for rain, hills, and headwinds, all of which
have contributed to making Mike the strong athlete
and fierce competitor he is. He lives near Arcata
with his wife Marci and their two children.

PC Coach is the
official training software of USA Triathlon
Like all plans in the PC Pro
Training Series, the Pigg Plan requires the use of PC Coach. Since the
Pigg plan incorporates the new assessment based logic however, it requires
the newest version of PC Coach. When you purchase the Pigg Plan we will
